This was a group project for my Graphical User Interface Class

Purpose

Create a centralized application for controlling all Smart Home devices.

Duration

August 2025 – December 2025

Contribution

Design:
– Created initial mockups for the application.
– Chose font type and size
– Collaborated on color palette

Code:
– Built out Login, Create Account, and Settings pages
– Ensured global font, colors, and layout for all pages

Design Process

– Decided on color scheme: Utilized Color Hunt for color palette inspiration. Initial concept allowed option to add multiple themes.

– Font needed to be legible/accessible for screen readers as well as older users who may prefer a larger font option.

– Wireframe designs for continuity amongst all designers (there were three of us). Utilized PenPot for creating wireframes.

– Initial code to set up functionality. We wanted a cross platform application, so we built the application with Flutter and Android Studio to allow for prototyping for both mobile and desktop usability.

– Final prototype was more streamlined and integrated more of the visual components we had initially wanted for the application.

– Future considerations: More themes, cleaner design, adding functionality to connect with devices.

Impact

Designing for accessibility across age ranges and tech literacy levels was a core priority; customizable color themes and font sizes ensure the app works for any user, not just tech-savvy ones. An app that connects all home devices only delivers on its promise if anyone in the household can actually use it.
